Rick Shorrock has been shooting,
directing and editing movies all his life. He cut his
directing chops while still quite young, shooting home
movies with a Canon 1014-XLS Super-8 movie camera and
editing the films on a reel-to-reel editor in his bedroom.
He later bought a 16mm Bolex camera and learned to
develop his own 16mm film. Digital video was the next
logical step. He formed Big Byte Video Productions in the
year 2000, mainly to spur his creative juices into a
career. And secondly, to fill a market void. "I had seen
what the local cable affilliate was producing and selling
as a commercial and thought I could do better. I thought
commercials shouldn't be cookie-cutter in appearance;
rather, they should draw you back into the living room
from the kitchen during the commercial breaks." Local
businesses and organizations began hiring Shorrock and Big
Byte to produce commercials and special corporate videos.
Regional and national corporations soon followed: WTVT,
Fox 13 in Tampa, FL; Solution Matrix, Inc. of Butler, PA;
and Growth Products of New York. They've all taken
advantage of what Shorrock has to offer: The business
acumen of letting the customer choose what's right for
their business and giving them the full editorial control
over their project. 2009 and 2010 brought new business
opportunities to Big Byte: Movie cinematography. Shorrock
was hire twice by Tender Shoot Films during these years to
be Director of Photography on two feature-length movies.
2011 has seen Big Byte move into HD production, with
brighter and much bigger productions to follow.
